More about Freedom to Move

The Freedom to Move exercise class is run at Corner Health by Jessie Haddad. The class is based on exercises used in the Feldenkrais Method in which we use movement for a number of benefits:

  • To relieve pain and stiffness
  • To improve flexibility and posture at any age
  • To alleviate stress, tension and anxiety
  • To improve balance, co-ordination and range of movement
  • To free up and challenge stuck patterns of movement
  • To improve well-being, calm, focus and concentration
  • To practice mindfulness
  • For rehabilitation of back and neck pain, and post-surgery, injuries and illness
  • To optimise performance in sports or the arts
  • To reduce chronic pain

We run the classes on Tuesday 16h00-17h00 and Thursday 9h00-10h00. Please phone Corner Health if you are interested in attending.

“I usually make clear that the point of my work is to lead to awareness in action, or the ability to make contact with one’s own skeleton and muscles and with the environment practically simultaneously. This is not ‘relaxation’, for true relaxation can be maintained only when doing nothing.  The aim is not complete relaxation but healthy, powerful, easy and pleasurable exertion. The reduction of tension is necessary because efficient movement should be effortless. Inefficiency is sensed as effort and prevents doing more and better.

The gradual reduction of useless effort is necessary in order to increase kinesthetic sensitivity, without which a person cannot become self regulating.”
